|14.Jan.2012So remember how I said it was mine and Jeff’s 17th wedding anniversary? In today’s “modern” marriage climate, I tend to think seventeen years is a pretty big, hairy deal. This naturally led me to consider what exactly it was that I should be awarded* for 17 years (or rather 20, if we count dating time) with this man. A quick Google search turns up Wikipedia’s advice for what to “gift” after 17 years of marriage. If the title of this post hasn’t completely given it away (which I imagine it has/did), the answer is FURNITURE.

Now, if you ask Jeff he will tell you that now is the time I invest in a really cool La-Z-y Boy for him. However, I know for a fact that once a man (or woman, for that matter) gets a La-Z-y Boy there is no turning back. No, I’m not being dramatic. I’m sure there is research somewhere that La-Z-y Boys are the “point of no return” for humans across the globe.
- Muscles degenerate
- Abs become more pronounced and rolling
- Osteoporosis sets in
- Balding increases (beginning at the back of the head, moving forward)
- Increased beer drinking
I’m pretty sure intimacy even declines as one reclines.
And so, instead of stepping off the deep end and speeding up the tail-end, we opted for gifts that were more suitable for our current goals.

Jeff, not comfortable with the VFF’s toe-separation, decided on another minimalist running shoe, the Merrell Road Glove.
After reading Born to Run
We began transitioning into the shoes this morning as we hit the beach for a few early morning run/walk intervals. Wow, the difference between minimalist running shoes and our Asics Nimbus 13 running shoes is STRIKINGLY different. I love them both, but the Vibram FiveFingers really helped me understand better how much of a heel-striker I am in my running form.
Ouch.
Our calves are sore, but our spirits are high!
