All I want for Christmas is my …
|21.Aug.2007Ah, Tuesday … a new day to be the same me. Will someone make THAT into a shirt and send it to me? I wear a size 18 right now, thankyouverymuch.
You’ll be glad to know that I’ve put on a smile. Yep, today I’m wearing A GREAT BIG SMILE. I’m told by my husband, the resident psychologist, that attitude often follows action. Even though I tend to refer to him in words that better describe a piece of meat (succulent, nice chops, tasty, delicious…) I totally respect the man too. I decided to embrace action and walk my butt away from yesterday’s tearfest into a new week. You guys, as always, continue to be the best readers ever, and I mean that … THE BEST EVAH!
So, let’s look back over OTHER weekend events. Because I was so self-centered I failed to share about Mer’s little tumble on Saturday. Scrambling to get her hand’s on her daddy’s new remote control car (yes, you read that right), she got her legs all scrambled up underneath her and slipped, slamming her face on the tile and subsequently breaking one of her front teeth. Not just ANY front tooth … oh no, it was only ONE of THREE adult teeth in the girl’s entire mouth. In fact, it hasn’t even completely grown in yet. It happened so fast that Jeff and I were clueless she actually hit her face until she stood up screaming and well, all the blood splattered everywhere.
Jeff and I both kicked into parental “action mode” and calmly moved her to the sink to spit out the never ending stream of blood, all the while “speaking” the parental language of facial expressions and lip reading. Basically it can be recapped like this (silently), “CRRRRRAP! AN ADULT TOOTH! DOES INSURANCE COVER THIS? GAH! RIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL. WHY WASN’T SHE WEARING A HELMET IN THE HOUSE?! AAARRRGGGHHH!!”
I totally need to patent a “House Helmet” for those of us who have tile floors instead of carpet.
“Uh uh … if you’re going to wrestle, please put on your house helmet!”
“Girls, you aren’t wearing your house helmet … stop sock skating across the kitchen.”
“Excuse me, no piggy back rides without the house helmet.”
“If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times … you CANNOT catapult your brother WITHOUT his house helmet on.”
To prove that children are resilient, even with busted lips and sore gums, 20 minutes later she was headed out the door to a swim party. Tylenol will do that, yo. Thankfully, she didn’t bust it high enough to expose any nerves, because we can’t get into a dentist until Thursday. But look! She is smiling and the lip swelling has gone down. We’re all smiles here in OMSHville.

OUCH-Y! What a trooper! That’s a rough break! She is my hero. I would have been a pile of mush on the couch and so not up to a party! I see a cap in someone’s future!
Jeana
She has your eyes, doesn’t she? Well she has at least one of them. I’m assuming the other one matches it.
Chris
When you get production on those helmets up & running, can you shoot me two in the mail? Just bill me. And be quick about it, please.
Gorgeous eyes on your daughter- and glad to hear she’s such a trooper about it all.
Lanna
I chipped the same exact tooth when I was 12yo. Just make sure you’ve got a good dentist – I’ve had two sucky ones that have tried to do something stupid to it. Plus once it’s fixed the first time, anything after that is supposedly considered cosmetic. Argh.
Moose
I’m so glad you’re feeling better today. And, may I say, that girl has the most gorgeous blue eyes.
Cori!
I fell during the first week of school when I was 6 (I’m not sure how old Mer is) and broke my third adult tooth at almost the same angle. She’s a trooper. I think I cried about looking like a freak for the first few hours. I hope it all is resolved quickly and simply.
Angella
Poor girl! Glad you’re feeling better :)
Angela
Yikes! Its great to see her smiling though!
Atomic Bombshell
It’s hard to feel really sorry about the tooth when you see those gorgeous eyes.
nyjlm
yikes! mouth injuries scare me the worst!
Wow she has some gorgeous blue eyes.
Jen
The “house helmet” made me laugh out loud.
TheAngelForever
I LOVE the idea of the house helmet. With two boys (a 4 year old and 3 month old) I am sure I will want them. Could you make sure the prototype has a chin guard? A must with kids who like to fly into things with their faces. Mind you this is a little too late for Thing 1.
So glad that Mer bounced back from this so quickly. Kids really are amazing. And I would also like to note what amazingly beautiful blue eyes she has. Gorgeous!!!
Good luck at the dentist on Thursday.
MMM
Oh, that doesn’t look bad at all! Yay! Poor thing. I know it must have hurt, but it certainly didn’t ruin that beautiful smile of hers!
OMSH
Dawn – Yea, she’s a tough one. She’s also social. Put those two things together and there was NO WAY she was gonna miss the party.
And yes, certainly a cap – though probably right now they’ll file it down until the tooth has a chance to full come in.
Jeana – bwahahaha – yes, the other matches. I’ll have to tell the story of Meredith’s eyes one day.
As far as shape – yes, but they are significantly larger than mine proportionately. We always sing “She’s got Betty Davis eyes…” to her. My eyes are green. All 3 of my kiddos have their daddy’s blue eyes.
Chris – I actually jokingly looked into it, thinking I’d link. And there was this one, this one, and then this one with full face coverage. GREAT for catapulting!
Lanna – My mother went through the same thing. A horrible initial fix that had to be fixed later “cosmetically”. I think she was about 8.
Moose – Thank you, I am. A new morning tends to do that to me now and then. I give “eye” credit to Mr. OMSH. He’s the one with the ocean blues. :)
Cori! – Mer is 7. She cried from the pain, but I have been surprised that she hasn’t been worried about what others think. Of course, when you put swimming up there on the schedule “OTHERS” are insignificant; she’s a fish.
Angela and Angella – Meredith is arguing with her brother at the moment, so yea – she’s doing well and obviously feeling her normal self.
Atomic Bombshell – See – right! One can’t have it all! heh heh
nyjlm – head injuries of any sort scare me. We’ve been through two eyes surgeries with Meredith and so, to see her eyes so blue and looking at us straight is a blessing. Thanks for the compliments. I wish I could take credit. :)
Jen – One of those ideas that just sort of spurt out of my fingers as I sit down and type a post. Isn’t that what we bloggers do? Finger spew our brains? eeeewwww!
TheAngelForever – I FOUND ONE with a chin and face guard. Check last link in this same comment above! hahahahaha. Thanks for your dentist well wishes.
MMM – Nah, she’s still sporting the rest of her pearly whites – um … for now, anyway.
Jeana
Yeah, now your picture is on the header so I see the difference in color, but the shape is definitely yours.
Kami
Oh no on the tooth! I actually knocked out both of my front teeth before I was 4 so I can kinda relate. I looked like Bugs Bunny when the adult ones grew in…. braces were necessary.
BTW, how blue can blue eyes be? Beautiful :-)
Glad you are feeling better today!
Loralee
I had the same injury to my tooth when I was little. I got it fixed and have only had to have it refilled in twice since I was 7.
My son ALSO had the SAME chip. In the same tooth as me! Again, we got it fixed and it looks spiffy.
Lanna
Oh, I forgot to add. MIL actually did construct an indoor crash helmet for my SIL when she was younger. Apparently she crashed into everything and then some.
Take a baseball cap, glue and tie/stick on a bunch of foam, like the 3 to 4-inch stuff. Chin strap optional.
Laura/PinkFontGirl
poor Meredith! but, she’s a doll nevertheless.
Friglet
Look at her, she’s such a trooper! We had the same thing happen here and they stuck some bonding on it and it’s good as new. :)
Michele
Youch! Poor kid! Poor absolutely GORGEOUS kid. :)
OMSH
Jeana – I love my header … it’s like “Now you see me … now you don’t!” haha
Kami – Bugs Bunny, eh? I could stick a quarter between my two front teeth, but that had more to do with the never-ending thumbsucking I did.
Thank you – today was a good day. Some stress, of course, but I’ve got 3 kiddos so stress free is not anywhere near in my future.
Loralee – It is actually comforting to know that this wasn’t so bad and many more have gone through it. We figure she’ll have it worked on a few times from her childhood to adulthood.
Lanna – That is a redneck fixer-upper if I ever heard one. I’m lovin’ it.
Laura/PinkFontGirl – I have to agree … well, sometimes. haha
Friglet – bonding? Really. See, I know nothing.
Michele – thanks dah’lin. Now go drink some coffee and BLOG. ((hugs))
Holley
OMSH- You give yourself too little credit for Mer’s eyes. You obviously have the recessive blue genes required for passing along the trait. So take some credit. There your eyes too.
OMSH
Holley – Well then, I’ll take credit where credit is due. THANK YOU. *smerk*
Emily
Hugs to Mer, and you.
mothergoosemouse
Oh for Pete’s sake. I waited until I was away at college and drunk before I broke my front tooth. Tell her to save some of these adventures for later in life!
(Seriously though, that would break my heart. But with those gorgeous blue eyes, no one will even notice her lil’ teefies.)
OMSH
Thank you Emily.
mothergoosemouse – I guarantee you this child of mine has many adventures ahead of her. None I’d like to think about right now. I’m envisioning a totally obedient child who makes wise, conservative decisions.
