Girls will be girls.

This weekend, as you know by now, was not a good one to have such a busy schedule. I’ve tweaked a nerve and am going in to the doctor tomorrow in the hopes of getting a muscle relaxer. Walking around with my shoulders stuck to my ears, I look a bit like Igor or The Hunchback of Notre Dame. But ask me if I care what I look like when every movement hurts – yes, even sitting here keying.

BUT…Friday night has been scheduled for a while with my AWANA girls. I am the director for the 5th and 6th grade AWANA at our church and the girls that met their goal of 16 sections in their books got a night out on me. We hit Chili’s first and then came back to the house for fun and games.

Oh, and photos, of course…

I wouldn't repeat 5th grade...

These are probably Emelie’s closest friends. Unlike many of the girls in her school, these girls aren’t trying to grow up too fast. They like to act their age – playing, being goofy, etc…and haven’t yet consumed their every thought with boys and clothes. Um…yet.

They are entirely amusing. They made up a few of their own games – including a rendition of Charades that takes two people and involves acting out scenes from books they’ve read, movies they’ve seen, or games they’ve played. This was a knock-out from Rocky.

"Acting Out" Charades

JoJo wasn’t left alone all night. It helps that he’ll let anyone do anything to him. Dress him up? Sure. Hang him upside down? No problem. Squeeze him ’til his eyes pop out? Okay, so we did’t let them do that.

JoJo was...um...feelin' the love.

This one has a special place in my heart; we can totally relate to each other.

A girl after my own heart.

They’re all nuts and I claim them completely.

Kitty kitty kitty...

Fifth graders can teach you a lot about yourself. Specifically that being too serious causes cancer (I had one tell me that.), that Coke tastes better when sucked through licorice straws, and that if you mix salt,sugar,sweet-n-low, and ketchup in with sprite it looks JUST LIKE a pink lemonade at Chili’s.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t TASTE like a pink lemonade…trust me.
Also trust me…don’t go to the bathroom and leave your drink unattended in the hands of 5th and 6th grade girls.

I will have to thing about doing that for my AWANA girls…only I do the 3rd and 4th grade girls.

They look like they had lots of fun. I just hope you didn’t drink to much of that…

What a great night for you all. Looks like all had fun. Bug had 2 of her friends over on Friday too. And while they are in high school and like boys and all, they aren’t trying to be adults at least.

Future fabulous bloggers!! Sounds like a terrific night.

Hope you get those muscle relaxers soon.

This is yet another reason why it’s easier to be a boy…the most obvious, of course, is that we can pee standing up.

LOL – Love the photos. I taught 6th grade girls the last few years and enjoyed their energy the innocence that some of them had. *sigh* I miss them.

Good luck at the doctor tomorrow.

I wish I’d had a midweek-church teacher like you when I was a fifth grader. :-) Those photos are priceless. I especially love the Rocky one!

I teach fourth and fifth graders this year. 5 girls and a boy. (The 2nd and 3rd is 2 girls and 6 boys). We don’t have fun like this. I think I am going to have to start offering meals out.

I bet you’re the most fun mom they know, even when you’re a hurting unit. I hope the killer cough and nerve tweak go away fast.

Ooooo AWANA is FABULOUS! I wish I had have had something like that when I was young hooligan… instead I get to live vicariously through my OWN hooligans!

(seriously, how cute are the teeny ones in their little vests???)
