Nervously waiting for Ike.
|12.Sep.2008Jeff camped out on the front porch with his laptop for a while. We expect Ike to reach us between 2-3:00 am.
Earlier the skies were absolutely beautiful.
Once the preparations had been made and the work was all done, Jeff and I enforced a ‘mandatory’ play time on the lawn, knowing the kids would get cabin fever once Ike’s winds and rain arrived and they were stuck inside.
They played until it was too dark and then came in, cleaned-up, and crashed hard.
I’m about to lay down a bit and let Jeff stand guard. Our biggest concern right now are the three very large pines on the east side of our home. They lose branches with minimal winds – BIG branches. A large wind, we’re concerned, might drop the trees right atop our home on the side of mine and Jeff’s bedroom and the garage. If we get any sleep tonight, it’ll be in the kids’ rooms on the opposite side of the house.

I wanted to let all of you know that Heather does not have electricity. Talked to her mom & dad several times today and everyone is OK. Texas has lost power from the coast through most of East Texas and it will be days . . maybe weeks . . before it is all restored. Phone service is spotty also. I know she will be back in touch as soon as she can.
Zookeeper
Glad to hear you made it through okay. Hope your power is up and running soon!

Thought about you today, Heather. We don’t have electricity either, and I wondered if I put the crayons out in the heat, if they’ll melt THEMSELVES into alphabet shapes. Sure feels like it! =D

Did you guys make it through? We got the left over rain here over the weekend. Winds were still pretty good for Missouri.
