Nine o’ Clock
|18.Jan.2008Last night after prayers Jeff never came out of the girls room. Not too much later Emelie came out and said, “Momma, Daddy is asleep with Meredith.” The combined snores of Meredith and Jeff were hard to miss resonating through the walls.
I went in to stir him and came back out to grab my camera.
When I remember my childhood I remember a lot of bedtime moments. I remember my dad telling stories of his time at Basic Training. I remember how sometimes he’d play the harmonica or the few times he’d pull out the accordion in the living room. I remember mom’s sweet kisses and how she’d calmly tuck me in all nice and neat only to be mussed-up a few seconds later by my dad and his ear whispers and tickles. Those are amazing, close-knit moments that tied heart strings to my parents that have lasted through the years.
This picture reminds me of heartstrings.
I want to see more heartstring photos; photos that show intimacy in the relationship between parents and children. Let’s have one big ol’ heart hugathon of links in the comments.
Pretty please?
Honestly, I think it’ll make me get better faster if y’all would make my main valve all warm and toasty.

I can make this wish come true for you. I’ll give you three shots.
I hope this works! If not delete it!

What a lovely picture.
I remember being tucked in when I was a kid. My dad would start at my feet and tuck the covers underneath me all the way to my neck. I felt like a mummy, and couldn’t stand that feeling, but I never shook them off till after he would leave. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, and I knew that he did it to show me he loved me.
I still tuck my kiddos in. The boy is 17, and I go down and lay across his double bed. We share scripture, thoughts on the day, how we can be better people, thoughts about college, life, girls, driving to fast, etc.
My daughter is 15, and I do the same with her, except her bed is a twin, and there is just no room to lay across her bed. So I sit, and rub her face, tell her how special she is to me, how beautiful a person she is inside and out, and how much God loves her.

Tucking in is my favorite part of the evening. And it has nothing to do with finally getting some peace and quiet because the kids are going to be…ok well maybe a little. But mostly because my kids look so sweet and loveable with sleepiness creeping onto their faces. We read stories, pray for the new day ahead and always, always, always give kisse, hugs and say I love you – see you in the morning.
What a sweet post today. Thank you.

My bedtime moment is actually my son’s. He is 2 1/2 and insists that both MomMom and Da put him to bed. First I have to love on him and kiss him and play with his hair…then when I leave my husband stays behind and loves on him LOADS more. I can hear them on the monitor in D’s room whispering and humming.
My husband is never more relaxed than the 5 minutes after he leaves our son’s room. And our son goes to bed knowing that all is right in his world.

Well, I don’t have any pics like that of me and my parents (Mom has them all), but I do have some of my cousin’s super-cute fam. Go check ‘em out here:

Bedtimes can be rowdy at our house. Dogpiles are frequent. Here’s a pic right after and before dogpiling happens!

Aww, too sweet. No husband or kiddies for me yet but hopefully I’ll have my own pictures to share one day. I must go digging through our photos to see what pictures I have of my parents, siblings and I.
Caution
I got looking through my pix only to find all warm and cuddly pix are of my husband and kids. Hmmm. The rationale I’m going with is that I am the photographer – right??? http://humanrace600.vox.com/library/photo/6a00e398adc5eb000300e398d1cc630005.html

Do aunts and nieces count for those of us without kiddos of our own?

I love pictures of daddy’s with their little ones.
I adore this one of Ja with Talya when she was just a few months old http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2256/2202684968_477e090b2c_o.jpg
It didn’t phase him one bit to have her in the FLOWERED wrap… he just wanted to snuggle with his wee one.

Here’s one of me with my baby son. He’s about a month old here. He’s now almost three months. I love this photo of us that my mom took. There are others I’ve got of him with his dad and grandparents. I love those heartstring moments, too.
Steph
I find it hard to believe that this photo is nearly ten months old already. :weeps copiously:

I love this first picture of my three sons, the twins were about 3 weeks old. Just by chance we set them in J’s arms and that started a tradition of taking monthly pictures of the three of them. Love them.

I’m not comfortble posting my kids pics yet, but I have several of the three of them all tangled together. Those are my favorite ones. I don’t have any of bedtime per se, but we have our ritual too. Thanks for providing me with a topic for today!
Bethany
Here’s one for you … feel better soon! Coughing is horrid, sorry it got to you. Thanks for the topic, a good one. I seem to always get the kids solo, here’s one though …

Since I blog anonymously, this one is old, and has some wear on it, but the look on my older son’s face melts me every time.

Here’s mine. I love this pic. We were all sick the week I took this picture. (Or should I say three weeks because it was actually that long that we were all sick as dogs.) You can tell these two were in the same boat as each other!

A little late, but here’s one of my faves of my husband and son. They adore each other:

And down at the bottom here. Typical, he has worn his dad out and is proud of it:
