*********UPDATE ABOVE THIS LINE*************

To some it may seem silly that I’ve fallen in love with a particular pen, but growing up the daughter of an office supply salesman, I’d have to disagree.

For an office supply junky like me, there is NOTHING silly about my love for this pen…this PERFECT pen…this PERFECTLY fine-tipped pen that never, ever, EVER spits or spurts or splats.

What is this pen that will change your life?

This pen that if used to sign a treaty, could singlehandedly bring about world peace?

This pen is the Uniball Japanese Signo RT. Why the RT? Because I can’t be bothered with keeping up with pen caps; I need a quick and easy click top retractable pen with bold color flowing from a fine tip .38 gel ink.

I wish I could take credit for finding this pen, but since I can’t, I’ll give credit where credit is due. While visiting Bethany and Brenda a few months ago I saw Brenda doodling in her moleskine and asked what type of pen she was using. I was currently using a Sharpie fine-tipped pen, but not quite satisfied. Brenda passed her pen across the table for me to try out and it took every bit of my character not to sock it away in my pocket to take home with me. Yes, I’m that mature.

Brenda immediately directed me to the Tokyo Pen Shop and I made both a bookmark and mental note. As mental notes go, I returned home with it stuck somewhere in the furthest regions of my head…that place that holds passwords, birthdays, and the most elusive of all information, my anniversary date (Am I the only woman in the world who struggles to remember the actual date of her marriage?).

HOWEVER, my handy dandy bookmark did not return void; I happened across it the other day and placed my first order with the lovely Frank and Kimberly.

Today my package arrived with (2) each of the fabulous Uniball Signo RT .38 mm pens in the colors orange (of course), purple, pink, black and blue. And wouldn’t you know it, they tossed in a green pen (though with a cap – may the good Lord help me keep hold of it) for St. Patrick’s Day! Oh how I love surprises!

I’m not an illustrator, am a rather infrequent letter writer, and certainly a poor excuse for a journaler (I made that word up, do you like? The actual word is journalizer, but I don’t like the way it sounds.), but these pens? They make my heart sing. And not opera either – I hate opera. If you must know…I’m singing a sort of hybrid, yet spirited, boogie band version of the Hallelujah Chorus.

Oh yeah, that’s right.
Can you dig it?

So if you like pens.
And you think they are better if they are fine tipped; I mean REALLY FINE-TIPPED.
And if you are fully aware that the earth could quite possibly roll right off its axis if you didn’t fill your pen coffers with this same delightful medley of colors, then you might want to order one, two, or three for yourself too.

And if you do – tell them I sent you.
Because I did you know.
I’m just THAT good a friend. :)

Because I know you’ll ask, the lovely Tokyo team did NOT ask me to write up their pens, but a gal’s gotta rave when she finds something she likes…and these pens? I LIKE A LOT!

Almost as much as chocolate and peanut butter.

Aren’t those pens awesome!? And Tokyo Pen Shop is just as awesome as the pens they sell; I’m so glad I found them!

When I wrote about their pens just because I loved them, Kimberly gave me a code so readers of my blog could get free shipping for a limited time. Is that fantastic, or what?

  • OMSH

bethany – I vaguely remember that! I think sharing a love for pens has brought us so much closer. Heh heh… I’m not pensive at all about it! I hope I never need to have my appendix out.

    Bwahaha!
    I slay me.

  • Lee

I like comfy shoes (mostly Danskos), bags with lots of pockets (Baggalini) and awesome pens. Not completely sure about the super fine point, but I could be swayed on that one. This happens to be my favorite at the moment. http://www.tokyopenshop.com/jetstream-blueblackred-p-107.html in blue. I’ve gone so far as to hunt people down to get mine back :)

  • golden

$41.00 later, all for pens, japanese erasers, flashcards and notebooks. I’ll save some for easter baskets! Then again, maybe not, because they will see me playing with mine before easter!

  • OMSH

Lee – I have hunted down people as well – haha! Most specifically my children and husband…all whom think if I leave a pen next to my computer it is FREE FOR ALL.

golden – Okay FINE…going to look at the erasers and let me tell you I was VERY tempted by the flashcards, but being a moleskine fan, did not give in to the tempting notebooks. Isn’t it a great shop though? I JUST LERV IT TO DEATH (well, not to death, I’m all about peace and life).

  • jamie

    Okay, better than Sharpie pens?? I feel… doubtful… ;)

  • OMSH

    jamie – I know, right?
Coming from one Sharpie lover to another…trust me!

  • SAJ

Tokyo Pen Shop ROCKS. Wheee! I’m so glad so many people are checking them out. They deserve the biz.

  • Naomi

pens…i love them, but one in particular i use all the time. it’s a zebra brand, but since the writing on the pen barrel wore off long ago i don’t know what is the particular make. i use fine tip, but ultra fine push my buttons too. i dislike medium point pens.

containers are my downfall. boxes, hold-alls, purses, wallets, drawers, baskets, plastic containers…if they contain something i will ponder it and covet it as a squirrel desires an acorn.

  • Kate

I’m a Sharpie lover too….they have their own pencil cup, separate from the “other” pens. :)

Hmmm…I may have to check this pen out to verify it’s worth for myself. I too am a office supply junkie so I’m always interested.

Is the online store the only place to get them? Like, Office Depot doesn’t sell ‘em??

  • Food Vigilante

I’m a pencil person, myself. I struggle with the choice between mechanical and wooden. Pens seem to permanent. Quick, somebody consult Freud. lol !

  • OMSH

Kate – Nope, not Office Depot, Staples, Office Max or any of those … they don’t even carry .38 mm pens at all.

I did find them at Amazon, but you have to order single colors by the dozen (they weren’t shipped under my Prime membership either) and I wanted several different colors.

Food Vigilante – I LOVE PENCILS. I have an old fashioned sharpener right inside the garage/kitchen door and I grind away at mine on a daily basis. My kids prefer mechanical – numskulls.

  • jamie

Bah, minimum shipping to me is $10… curses to stupid online mail estimates!! Why am I sharing this with you? I’m not really sure, frankly. :P

  • OMSH

jamie – Maybe because we are bloggers and have a tendency to share EVERYTHING; heh heh

I’d say ship to me and I’d ship it to you, but by that time we’ll have spent that much in shipping anyway, eh?

  • redheadkate

As the girl who stands in the aisle in Office Depot lusting over the office supplies, I completely get this. I actually looked at Tokoyo Pen Shop last week, but couldn’t figure out which pens to buy given the selection. Thanks for your suggestions…I will definitely make my way back and buy some of these.

  • Angella

SAJ introduced me to the pend when I was in California. I just got a box of them in the mail on Friday. LOVE.

  • jamie

Hmmm… hard to say, you know? Really, I don’t MIND paying the $10 shipping, but I just wanted to try a couple first… if I love them (and I AM very sure that you, my dear OMSH would NEVER steer me wrong), it just seems prudent to try it first!

Yes, we bloggers certainly do tend to share odd things, don’t we?

  • Aileen Mauro

Just want you to know, you’re not the only woman in the world who cannot remember her anniversary. I have to ask my husband every time. Does that say something weird about our marriage?

  • OMSH

jamie – yes we do. :)

Aileen Mauro – I’m going to say no, because to do otherwise would incriminate me, I think. :) heh heh

  • Tickled Red

I have three stores that my girlfriends will not allow me to enter on shopping trips. Book, art and…da, da, dum… office supply. I get sucked in and don’t leave for hours. They leave me stranded and lost on purpose on occassion :) Now I have a legitimate excuse to venture in next time. Thanks!

  • Kimberly

Oh gosh, this post made me blush. Thanks for the lovely write-up, Heather!
Jamie, here’s a coupon code good for free shipping on pens. Yes, even to Canada! It expires on March 16th.
    OHMYSTINKINHECK

  • Elda @ Peace-inthe-Storm

I’ve seen Brenda, Bethany and now YOU comment on how awesome these pens are… but I just don’t want to give up my Sharpies! I’ll have to see if I can get some for my birthday next month. I can totally justify spending money on pens if its my birthday gift.
(I’m a office supply junkie too. I stock up with the back-to-school sales with BOXES full of EVERYTHING!)

  • Amy from She Wears Many Hats

Nothing like a good pen to make you feel special – kinda like good bed linens.

    Thanks for the fine tip.

    (get it? fine tip?)
    (i crack myself up.)

  • jamie

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Okay, I’m totally going to blog about this myself when they get here! Heather, you and Kimberly are BOTH my heroes!!

  • OMSH

Amy – I love how much of a goober you are. ;0

jamie – I am sure Kimberly is profoundly happy to bring you so much joy.

    PENS! PENS! Whoop!

  • jamie

Uh oh, Heather, you crashed the site! GAH!

  • Kimberly

Oh! Naomi…. if you send me a picture of the pen I can go through my Zebra catalogues and see if I can find anything they are still making that’s like it. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning…
You can email me at kimberly at tokyopenshop.com

  • Kimberly

Jamie ~ site is back up. Thanks to all these bloggers looking out for us! :)

  • Mr. OMSH

I love these pens as well. Just think how much I could’ve fit on a cheat sheet if I had one of these fine-tipped pens in high school. Not an ethical selling point, I know…I’m just saying.

  • Jaynette

I write my best notes on my hand…above the fatty part of my left thumb. It’s the only note pad I don’t lose. How are these for writing on my hand?

  • OMSH

Y’know, I don’t know. When I have to write on my hand I totally surrender to the fine tip sharpie!

  • Secreteeyore

This website made the cut for Matha Stewart’s magazine this month….and free shipping if you spend over $25. Just a head’s up. I am way pumped about the sushi erasers….

Comment if ya wanna.
