|13.Dec.2008So a couple of days ago I reminisced about the Recycled Christmas Tree I made from a Reader’s Digest in 1st grade. Many of you wrote in the comments about your recollection of making Christmas Angels with styrofoam heads – which brought back my own memories of the same.
You had NO IDEA you were foreshadowing, did you?
I bet not.
Guess what my mom had sitting out when the girls and I arrived at her house for a Craft Day today?
Yep, my own Christmas Angel made from a Reader’s Digest, red spray paint, a few paper doilies, a styrofoam head, yarn, a single pipe cleaner, and sequins.
Once upon a time there was a mouth (though I specifically remember not making a nose).
My daughters giggled under their breath while making long, gasping “Ahhhhh Momma! That’s so sweet!” comments typically reserved for parents who have no idea what else to say when looking at a newly made ‘craft’.
I rolled my eyes at them, grabbed my angel from the clutter of the craft table, and left the room, mumbling about how they had NO IDEA how advanced I was at the ripe age of 6 – or was it 7?
I then placed it on my parent’s mantle amid all the other beautiful decorations and had a photo-shoot.
And no, I wasn’t pouting.
Not too much.
I have much to post in the upcoming days – our snow day (we saw pigs fly too that day – just so you know), the American Girl store trip from nearly a month ago now, the amazing craft day at my parent’s today – where we made ornaments from recycled slides. Seriously, so much coming up. I also have coloring sheets and an uncoloring contest that I said I wouldn’t do, but I AM going to do, because I just can’t help myself.
So, take a deep breath and hang in there…it’ll be a ride!
Oh, and there are just a dozen of the OMSH Christmas postcards left. If you want one, you had better send me your address quickly.

Awww, that is cute! And of course you were very advanced for a 6 or 7 year old!
I think it’s so funny when my kids say things like that to me!

That’s a sweet Angel. :) When I was a kid, we’d make something like that out of toilet roll cores, white paper, a ping-pong ball for head, and cotton. :)

That IS a sweet angel! I’m going to get Kaylie to do one of those Christmas trees – I’m always looking for something “free” for her to do.
I look forward to hearing of your snow day! It’ll make me feel better. Usually I’m looking at your blog seeing photos of your children in shorts and t-shirts while I’m sitting in -45 (Celsius) (literally) weather.

Ooooooo, my children will be very excited to hear about an uncolouring contest! Ephraim even said, “I don’t mind so much that we don’t win.” LOL

yea! Coloring contest! My son was asking me for OMSH coloring pages the other day! The kids saw me reading your site, saw the little OMSH critter and got all excited- they were totally let down when they discovered there was more to OMSH than coloring- ha!
And the angel, yes, that’s very nice dear, why don’t you tell me about your project? ;-)
