The true wake-up call comes from a guy 4 stories high with a chainsaw. Once you’ve had that, you’ll never go back.

My new alarm clock.

Our next door neighbor is felling some pines that surround his home. At $600.00/tree, I told him he could have hired me to get’em down, but I don’t think he believed me; or maybe he’s not inclined to test my abilities. Either way, the guys were back this morning to finish what they started.

Boy he’s high – I mean, WAY high up there. Ask me if I want to be placed in a large plastic bucket and slowly raised 4 stories up with just myself and a chainsaw.

A man, his chainsaw, and a tree.

Every couple of minutes I hear a loud thud and because curiousity killed the cat (and not the human) I had to walk out there and check out why my house was vibrating. It was the tree trunk falling from where it was just cut and slamming into the ground. As I watched I considered the possibility of living from a head blow like that. These guys must be packin’ in the insurance.

DUCK!!

Over and over they did this – all through yesterday. The fact that I slept through the chainsaw and the dropped pieces of trunk was a testament to how badly I needed deep rest. I slept like a baby, awoke at dark, and they were gone.

I’ll be glad when they are gone for good.

But for now, he’s back at it again.

...and again

I don’t believe in just chopping down trees whenever, but there’s like nothing left of that poor tree! Wouldn’t it have been easier for them to take down the whole tree? That would wake everyone up. :D

  • bethany actually

I wouldn’t want a job where there was even a remote possibility of tree trunks dropping on my head.

I never would have thought they’d do it in uniform sized pieces. Thats kinda cool. But its a whole lot safer than trying to fell a 50-100 Foot tree with out killing someone or breaking something. Keep getting better!

Take that thud and vibration you are hearing and feeling and put it in your head and that is how I am feeling. I am glad you got some sleep…. you needed it. Now will you stop passing your sickness through the internet to me.

Oh wow, you must have been tired! You would have to pay me WAY MORE THAN THAT to be up there felling a tree. Actually, I don’t think you could pay me enough.

I hope you get LOTS of rest!!

See, I could see my husband doing something like this. He’s worked at logging in the woods before though.

I’m with you, at $600 a tree, I could get those suckers down.

We had a woodpecker once. It was pecking our house right outside our bedroom window every morning, when I wanted to take a nap, etc. I hated that dumb bird.

I lost some sleep last night because the fire alarm went off a half dozen times. It’s electrical and there were some short power outages ….which means it chirps when the power goes on and off. Lovely. I am thankful for surge protectors on my equipment….

oh man, I know how you feel, A couple of weeks ago the power company came by, cut two of our trees down that were dead and then trimmed the entire neighborhoods trees so the limbs werent in the lines. I got no sleep, and im surprised I wasnt fired from my job because I couldnt concentrate! least ya got to rest! get well soon!!

I once tripped on the coffee table and stubbed two toes. I was mad.

Mr. OMSH – We all know you are a man, and therefore do not understand the fine art of SHARING BURDENS, but I’m gonna tell you this anyway … go suck on a tailpipe.

All I can think about is how much delicious, perfect firewood your neighbor is garnering right now. It’s so cold and dreary in Dallas. I’m kind of aching for a fire.

  • OMSH

chirky – Nope, that is PINE…ya can’t burn pine. Well, you can, but it isn’t suggested unless you want a big sappy mess. Blech.

And? Good to hear from ya!

  • Her Bad Mother

If a tree falls by your house at dawn, you clearly hear it. So I guess that koan is solved.

I know this is a little off subject and these guys were in buckets and not on the ground, but ages ago (before Deadliest Catch was ever on the Discovery channel) I read somewhere that lumberjacking (word?) was the most dangerous job there was.

Comment if ya wanna.
