Theme songs and mad bulls.
|2.Jul.2007Remember when you didn’t want to miss the opening of your favorite sitcom because of the theme song? For instance, Laverne and Shirley‘s “Schlemiel! Schlemazl! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!”?
I was something like 9 or 10 when I watched that show, and in my heightened maturity, I thought it appropriate to substitute “Constipated Incorporated” after the “Schlemazl”. I didn’t (nor do I now) know any yiddish, so if I was defaming Hasenpfeffer, I wasn’t aware – nor did I really care in my fit of giggles that ensued.
Heading into age 12 I was in love with The Cosby Show and A Different World. One of my all time favorite Cosby Shows ended with this number.
But! The Dukes of Hazard could NOT be beat. “Just a good ol’ boy … never meaning no harm…” That was when good programming (okay, I really thought it was good THEN) could still be found on Friday nights because families were HOME on Friday nights. Whatever I was doing, I stopped it to watch this show. I was in love with Bo Duke and dreamed I was Daisy rescuing her brothers in her jeep while I tore up my grandparents’ back pasture on my go-cart.
It is a wonder I came out unscathed with all the motorized vehicles stashed in my grandparent’s barn, because the go-cart, 4-wheelers and motorcycles seriously ticked off my grandpa’s Brahman Bull and he would chase us. There were several times we’d barely escape his mad rushes; we’d vault from the go-cart into the safety of the coral, pig pen, or crawl beyond the pasture’s barbed-wire fenceline. It was an adrenaline rush, to be certain; we were IDIOTS.
You could hear our loud “YEEEEEEEEEEEeee-HAAAAAAAaaaa’s” across those 150+ acres when my cousin and I launched off the dirt pile pad and caught air.
Once she tried to kill me. Okay, that was dramatic, but seriously, she lost control and we were driving toward a barbed wire fence and she ditched. As in, she jumped OUT of the go-cart. Seeing as how she was the DRIVER and I was the PASSENGER, this wasn’t good. I managed to roll out before it hit the barbed wire, but I pretty much required that I drive after that incident.
I was around 7 or 8 then. The idea of letting my girls drive around in a fast go-cart, without parental attention, FREAKS ME OUT.
I’m an overprotective mother.
My poor children will never get to live – well, they will find a way, but likely I won’t know about it.
Back to theme songs. Which ones did you like? Find them on YouTube and send me the link so I can reminisce with you.

I don’t remember any spectacular theme songs, but I did love Three’s Company. At 4-5yo. I have no idea what my mother was thinking. I also loved Laverne and Shirley and Night Court, but I’m just weird.

unrelated, but i LOVE those flashy cards on your sidebar. I will buy me some French ones. Right now the songs plaguing me are mostly from kids chows that Charlotte watches. damn that Dora!

Hee, this is fun! This is the first one I thought of. I LOVED this show and the intro song. Hope I copied the link right.

Angie, that’s exactly what came to my mind, too. Other than that, I really loved this show. I didn’t realize it back then, but now I realize I may have been in love with Almanzo when I was 9 or 10.

Apples on a Stick
I really liked the theme song for “3-2-1- Contact”. We didn’t have cable when I was young, so I was a PBS junkie.

Angella
How about his one… ;)

Believe it or not, I`m walking on air.

I was really bummed they changed the ER theme this year. Seinfeld would probably be my favorite because it was such a non-theme-song.

Zoom Z double O M Box 354 Boston, Mass 03124 And the theme song from Hawaii 5-0. Fresh prince of Bel-Air, all my kids can sing this one thanks to Nick at Night.

Ack! Apples beat me to 321 Contact! I LOVED IT.
That said, I spent about 10 years figuring out what the song was when Magnum PI was “Dying” and going off into the clouds to heaven.
I LOVE IT. It is pretty much the theme song of my entire life

I’m with Angella – loved the theme song from Greatest American Hero!

I want to throw up! I just wrote back to each and every one of you b/c y’all had me laughing and reminiscing and I remembered more, more and more. And then, I tried to ‘x’ out of youTube and well, I ‘x’ed out of this instead.
GAH!
So, here we go … I can’t even begin that novella again, but yes, yes, yes, and wow! A fabulous walk down memory lane.
Oh, and Loralee – John Denver has spoken to my heart since I was a wee one – like age 3 when I first heard Thank God I’m a Country Boy.
Though it isn’t a theme song to anything,I cannot sit still when it is on – sort of like the cotton eyed joe; it REQUIRES movement.
And? Don’t forget Wonder Woman and Bionic Woman!!! I liked those over The Great American Hero because I was already into GIRL POWER!
*off to mourn the loss of all the links I loaded when watching all y’alls links – boo hoo waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!*
Loralee
Oh, the travesty! I feel for your link loss.
I KNEW you would be a kindred John Denver fan. He was my very first concert ever. I get mocked for this a lot but I don’t care. It was fabulous and outside in the rocky mountains. You don’t get much better than that!

My personal FAV..

Stefanie – hahaha! Yes! THE FONZ. Okay, there was Night Court, Who’s the Boss, Silver Spoons (couldn’t find that intro), Growing Pains and OH! I loved Different Strokes too!
Apples on a Stick
I forgot this gem. When I was little and my g. grandmother lived with us (in our 2bd house) my sister and I had our bunk beds in my mom’s room. I would sometimes wake up while she watched Entertainment Tonight, even as an adult there is something familiar and happy about hearing the theme song.
Aileen
I always loved this song:

Jessica
Oh wow, this brought back memories! I feel like I just went into a time warp! Don’t really have any new one, but LOVED that I got to go through all the rest! thanks!
OMSH
Apples on a Stick – I never watched Entertainment Tonight, but I’d recognize the theme song! BUT Aileen! Family Ties!!!! Everyone told me I looked like Malerie when I was growing up! HA!
Stefanie – OMSH! How did I forget The Love Boat? OH! And Fantasy Island! bwahahahahaha!
Aileen
I must say that I DO see the Mallory resemblance. Is Mr. OMSH your Nick? :)
OMSH
Mallory – that IS the correct spelling. I had no idea. Justine Bateman … there, I can spell that right. Aileen, yes Mr. OMSH is my Nick, but man oh man is he NOT my Nick this morning. Little bugger.

You’ve been recently added to my bookmarks, thanks to a friend sharing a link to one of your posts. Thanks – I’ve been enjoying myself!
Anyway, this has been a fun entry to read. Lots of good songs to listen to! The first one that came to mind for me was Perfect Strangers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vbnLYROCj8
I see Growing Pains was already mentioned, but that was another favorite.
And embarrassingly enough, the theme music running through my head, because it’s just a nice song :P is Golden Girls:

A couple more:

(this version – one of many – of Family Matters)
There are probably more, but that’s more than enough! LOL

lynsgirl – this has been a fun thread … and long after you guys are gone I can come back to this thread and laugh my butt off.
Oh, and I loved the Golden Girls too – watched it at my Grandma’s house.
I can honestly say I HAVE NEVER SEEN Perfect Strangers. Either that means I’m old or you are. Which is it? *snicker*
And? 227? HOW DID YOU REMEMBER THAT? It was like The Jetson’s once removed! Jackee was the bomb.
lynsgirl
Me? Old? I dunno. . . ;). I’m 30, but just recently. And my oldest of more than several children is 10 :O (yes, we got married rather young. No, I do not need the walking stick the boy threatened to buy me for my birthday. Yet. lol). Family Matters was spun off of Perfect Strangers. I think I was 7ish – maybe? – when it was on. Somethin’ like that, anyway.
OMSH
lynsgirl – YOU ARE YOUNG! Oh, so young. So VERY young. I’m 35 … which means I round to 40 now.
