What happens when you’re not looking.
|10.Oct.2007You’re probably wondering where the WordPress Wednesdays post is, right? RIGHT!? I mean, aren’t you DYING for your incredibly boring delightfully informative tutorials? Well, take a chair. I’m 24 hours behind and surprisingly it is NOT due to procrastination or an unwillingness to begin projects before midnight, but instead to a 4 year old’s heightened allergic reaction to something invisible in the air. Something that cuts past his daily Claritin pill and unloads itself into a full-fledged-fluid cough that keeps mom and boy-child up until all hours of the evening.
My production goes down remarkably when Kenny is home. He is satisfied to perch on my lap, begging off YouTube videos while I think up ways to entertain him that doesn’t require another hour of laying on the floor and pretending the Fisher Price people entered a dinosaur village and were being picked-off one by one; that is, UNTIL they were valiantly rescued by Raggedy Ann’s brother, Tic, recently diagnosed with both Epilepsy and Tourette’s Syndrome.
After handing ma’ boy a bag of candy and telling him that the “ONLY THREE PIECES” rule doesn’t apply if I can’t see him, I managed to get some quiet time. As SAJ so wisely states, “A quiet toddler is a naughty toddler.” – that applies to 4 year olds as well. I went a’lookin’ for my little quiet man and found him asleep on my bed with 3 or 4 books and several candy wrappers strewn about. I’m nothing if not a fabulous parent, I tell ya.
I tucked him in, stacked the books on the edge of the bed, picked up the candy bag and wrappers and headed out of the room. Looking across to Jeff’s desk I spotted an interesting arrangement of farm animals strewn across the mousepad and various other objects.
It was like seeing a mini Animal Farm – y’know, if they were plastic – right in my living room.
Obviously there were disparities starting to emerge between the different species.1
Napoleon, the “headiest” dog of them all, had built up a great deal of power, utilizing the entire dog population as his secret police.
Unfortunately, he was unable to keep a few of his own “in line” – as some of his field dogs were a bit shnookered. The Naaaay-saying horses were quick to judge.
As were the Fighting Cock-a-doodle-doooooos.
At any rate, there will be no WordPress Wednesdays post today – I gotta rest up as it seems some dogged revolutionaries are plotting to overthrow the humans of Mousepad Manor.
I need to be prepared.

Kenny = rock. star. Although I totally understand that whole “I have to be a mom now” thing, I admit, I was a little jazzed today when I realized it was WORDPRESS WEDNESDAY, and then sad when I realized real life had intruded.

I think the crud is coast to coast as brother has just gotten over it. And, I totally didn’t know that the only three piece rule didn’t count if I couldn’t see him! That would have been helpful information to have last week. I was “jazzed” as well, but totally understand. Fell Better, young kenny.

Ohhh i so know the feeling, and I forgive ya. last week i told my son he could dumb his entire toy box out and didnt have to clean it up, if he would just stay there while i could get some things done.. and i gave him two airheads.. yeah im a nice mom too. hes 5 so this was fabulous to him. i managed to get a few things done and then was pissed off at myself for letting him do that, since i had to clean it up ::giggle::
ethan was sick from some sort of allergy as well, he is on zyrtec and, it didnt block whatever it was.. on came the sore throat the watery eyes the sneezing and cough.. but all was well in about 3 days, i got him some tylenol sinus allergy something something and it did the trick.

I understand. You gotta be a mom first! I’m really enjoying WordPress Weds. In fact, I just got my domain name and host site today. I’m able to do it because of you! Thank you!

I’m so glad they were missed! I had wondered b/c they don’t get much in the way of comments, but I’ve learned that doesn’t mean much.
BUT … I’m hoping to get it out tomorrow. :~)

Isn’t it weird how kids can be so ORGANIZED?
Lanna
Oh my stars. That’s just too cute. At least he wasn’t smearing chocolate from his face onto the computer or walls or lick a lollipop in between licking himself, his brother or furniture (what mine would do given the chance).
MammaLoves
I love the photographs, but just admit it. It was you who set them up while he was sleeping.
Holley
Animal Farm! Someone find Napolean. It is time for the revolt.
Angella
Sweet post! He’s such a doll. And you’re such a great Momma.
And you know I love WordPress Wednesdays :)

Healthy vibes coming your way. There must be something in the air with 4 year old boys. My son is home with a high fever, croupy cough and wheezing. After almost going to the ER last night he was diagnosed today with a double ear infection and bronchitis. So much for school this week. I hope Kenny feels better ASAP. Lots of rest vibes for mom as well.

so. a thought. my nurse at work forwarded me this thing the other day about how putting vicks vaporub on your feet, and then putting socks on to sleep in, makes your cough go away. granted, it’s a forward, so you can’t put TOO much faith in it, but it might work? not sure if it would work on allergies, but hey.

Oh, my lands, that is funny. :-) Also, I think my new favorite rule is: “The ‘ONLY THREE PIECES’ [of candy] rule doesn’t apply if I can’t see him.”
I hope Kenny’s feeling better tomorrow, and that you catch up soon!
Tanya
Poor Kenny – I hope he feels better soon!

Mrs. Wilson – Yes, it is VERY STRANGE how organized they are in SOME things.
Lanna – My kids have never been prone to that, but probably only because God knows I’d loose my lid and be hauled off to the funny farm if they did. I’m sensitive that way. bwahahaha
MammaLoves – Nope. Naps are sacred times to ACCOMPLISH WORK – he does this with everything–> cars, shoes, bugs, trains, etc…
Holley – Exactly why WordPress Wednesdays got the backburner; mounting a defense.
Angella – Again … you need to be in my back pocket to best apply your gift of encouragement. *wink*
TheAngelForever – OH! Eeek! Well wishes to you too. I’ll say a prayer for yours too!
Laura/PinkFontGirl – NOT a wive’s tale. It does work. We learned that one a while back and I do it, BUT it doesn’t work for allergy coughs. It works for colds. I have no idea why – it is sorta scary how effective it is when done for a cold.
bethany actually – I’m trying to apply it to chocolate and my hips but it hasn’t worked yet. I NEVER let that chocolate see my hips or vice versa, and yet…
Tanya – Thank ya … he’s doing better tonight after a shot of albuterol to open it all up.
Aileen
That display is too funny!!
I have a friend who’s father makes capes and puts them on little ceramic figures. Maybe that will be next. :)
Michelle
He’s just too cute :o) Hope he’s feelin’ better today!
Hugs,
Michelle

Get better Kenny!!!
Love the toys. You should ask him what he was thinking and then blog it.
OMSH
Aileen – Capes? Okay, I feel TOTALLY SUPER NORMAL now. bwahahaha!
Michelle – He is! Thanks.
comfortablycrazy – That’s a good idea, except not only is he a boy, but he’s a boy and it happened a couple of days ago. As a boy he has “man genes” – meaning he can only remember one thing at a time and there has been two nights sleep since then!
nyjlm
those animal pictures are too cool. Love when they do stuff like that.
Leanne
Love the pictures. But really love to hear that I’m not the only Mom who figures they’re gonna eat the candy anyway so I may as well let them and get things done…
Great read. Thanks!

I have a little guy (aged 3) who does this too – he likes to line up his animals. I have some very cute photos of his arrangements. My favourite is two plastic frogs sitting in a mud puddle in the garden, just like they got in there by themselves.
I have no idea about WordPress Wednesdays, but the blogworld is new territory to me. I still prefer my paper journal.

We have the same mousepad LOL
Serene and Not Herd
Sometimes I’m almost thankful for the ick/crud. My little herd got it this week, and Wednesday, the three of us all played hookie. We stayed in the house, under quilts and blankets, drank cocoa, and watched PBS, The Science Channel, and a bit of Kindred: The Embrace. No dashing about town, making dinner or getting dressed- we all stayed in our PJs.
It was a glorious, calm family day. With lots of nose blowing.
