What is Irony?

|29.Jan.2008

Irony is stepping out of the shower, after two days of an emotionally-charged, circumstantial nightmare, and finding your middle daughter laying in your bed reading this book.

Judy Moody was in a Mood...

Can’t read the title? Let me help you.

“Judy Moody Was in a Mood. Not a Good Mood. A Bad Mood.”

Honestly, it doesn’t get any more Alanis Morrissette than that, now does it?

Actually, things were really good today. Now, don’t get me wrong, there weren’t any miracle healings. A doctor’s appointment confirmed that Kenny and Meredith both fought off some kind of viral infection and that Kenny’s infection was coupled with the dynamic duo, bronchitis, and his health-defeating accomplice, double ear infection.

BUT ALL THAT ASIDE, today was relatively productive. Jeff didn’t flee and best yet, no one slipped on vomit in the foyer again.

I’m discovering that my standards for a good day have changed significantly since, oh y’know, my college days. Then, staying awake through Remedial College Math Honors Calculus and choosing between dates for Friday night settling in with two movie rentals and a pint of peanut butter and chocolate ice cream made for a good day.

Funny how that beast we call perspective can morph so willingly through the years.

Speaking of perspective…before I close this Tuesday morning post, I want to thank MammaLoves for givin’this grey-haired gal a grin by nominating me for Best Blog Design at the Bloggers Choice Awards. I won’t poke fun at the fact that I have 2 whole votes and am on page 17…nope, won’t chuckle slightly at that at all. You know why? Because oh my goodness people, the fact that she and Absolutely Bananas even thought to vote for me at all makes me all warm and tingly inside. THAT or I just peed myself – and with the meds I’ve been on, I’m not placing bets on dryness.

Let’s all raise a coffee toast to these two fine women who have given me my “15 Minutes” in the limelight on Page 17. WHOOOP!

See you here tomorrow for another edition of WordPress Wednesdays, or over at Flawed but Authentic for something a little less techy and hopefully, not a lot ticky or tacky.

Now you have three. Put a button up, woman!

  • Loralee

I hear you on the “Good Day” measure. Watching a movie with a vat of yummy goodness in peace and quiet actually sounds like an unobtainable heaven.

  • Steph

You’re up to six votes (and oddly enough, you’re also on page six) now.

    Oh, and what witchypoo said!

  • Angella

I voted too – you’re up to seven. I agree with witchypoo – put a button up!

Then come over and vote for me :)

  • Aileen

That sounds like a book I’ll be picking up soon!

  • bethany actually

Does it make me a bad friend that I can’t be bothered to create a login to vote for you? :-)

  • Christina (in mo)

I was sorry to read that you had the bug at your house that invaded our house last week. It must be working it’s way west now.
However.. my heart actually jumped in my chest when I saw your kitty on the bed with your baby. That kitty could be the twin of my Sachi kitty. Including the M between the ears. Sadly.. Sachi kitty went to live with Jesus in ’04 after 15 years of lovin’ an purrin’.
I know that’s kinda sad, but I had to share.
~*~*~*~* get well soon ~*~* wishes for evryone

Yeah … my vote bumped you up to 10 votes, lol

  • ashpags

    And I made 11! =)

I’ve jumped on Simply Jenn’s Compliment Day bandwagon (http://www.simplynotsimple.typepad.com/) and just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog Heather! Your photographs are beautiful, your writing is clear and honest, and your love for your family, friends, and Lord shines through every word and image. =)

  • mamalang

You’re on page 2 now! We love you! We really do!

Glad things are returning to normal for you.

  • Lisa C

    And … I’m # 16! You’re movin’ on up!
Sorry to hear that you had such a horrible weekend ~ but so happy to hear that everyone is on the mend! Take care!

  • Mrs. Wilson

Voted! #18! Because I really do think you have the best blog design I’ve seen. And because I like you. And ’cause you’re purty.

  • OMSH

You guys have your own movement going on. Thank you – seriously, this is great. Page 2! WOW!

    I don’t think I’m gonna put a button up though…it is a bit too “campaign-ish” for me, I think.

  • OMSH

Mrs. Wilson – I seriously think I want to make you into a pendant and hang you around my neck.

  • kerflop

    I love that photo!

I’m so irritated with the Blogger’s Choice Awards, my user name is taken, but when I try to sign up as kerfloppity, it keeps refreshing that dumb verification string thing on the sign up page. WAH! I’m trying to vote, I am!!

  • Kristy

I’ve felt a little “Judy Moody” myself lately.

Congrats on the nomination! Woo hoo! I voted for you too. You’re movin’ UP!

  • Greta

I will TOTALLY vote for you (just did. It’s always a good day when no one slips on vomit. AND I’m sick and tired of saying things to my kids like, “Do you not FEEL that you have snot running down your nose?”

  • Holley

We are reading the exact same book at bedtime this week. Of course, we are also reading ” The Tale of Emily Winesap.”, “The Kite Runner”, “Eat, Pray, Love” and “The Story of the World”, Volume 2. No wonder my brain feels frazzled.

  • Holley

Still haven’t figured out why she is in a bad mood though.

  • Tempered Woman

well I think you should at least put a buton up because it’s a way to respect all your readers who don’t always leave comments but love looking at your blog. You’re only campaigning if you start promising people pretty baubles in exchange for their vote not that I’ve seen any of that going on or anything. :-/
OH~ and my ironic moment was when my 11 year old asked me what the anarchy symbol meant. I asked where the heck she had seen that and she had seen the Smells like Teen Spirit music video. “It’s this really cewl band Nirvana mom. You should SO hear it.”

Comment if ya wanna.
